If you have been following my blog for very long, you’ve heard about my hubby’s Traumatic Brain injury diagnosis last year. Since then I have shared some of the struggles my family has had while learning to deal with life post TBI. For several years I was a very tired, stressed out and depressed Mama. I was very overweight, I had little energy for my family and myself- I was miserable.
Things are so much better now, due in part to our decision to change how we eat and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I’d like to share with you something that has literally changed my life. I’ll be posting an affiliate link at the bottom of this page, if you are interested in knowing more. But I’m not posting this to get you to just buy a product. I am posting it out of love for my readers. I want you to be happy and healthy and find the same food freedom my family has found.
I’d like to share a my story by reposting a facebook post I shared on a Trim Healthy Mama Facebook page a few months ago.
I am 38 years old and 5 ft tall. Last January I saw the before picture posted in our church bulletin for family of the week. It was then that I decided I wasn’t going to be that unhappy, unhealthy person anymore. In this picture I weighed 190 pounds and wore a size 16 pants and XXL shirt. The year before that picture was a very difficult one, ending with a Traumatic Brain Injury diagnosis for my Hubby and a severe depression diagnosis for me. I had a lot of trouble with anxiety during that time and I didn’t sleep more than 3 hours a night for almost a year. I dealt with the depression and exhaustion by drinking at least 8-12 sodas a day and starbucks frapps the rest of the time. I would eat an entire bag of jellybeans or other candy at night, almost every night, anything to numb the pain and help me stay awake. Counseling for me and a diagnosis for my hubby brought some relief, because although it made me very sad, as least we finally knew what was going on with him.
I started my weight loss journey in January 2016 on another weight loss program and lost 20 pounds by March, but then stalled out and just couldn’t see myself eating like that the rest of my life. In May I found Trim Healthy Mama and within a week I had read the book, bought my first ingredients and told my hubby we were starting a new plan. He wasn’t too excited about it, thinking it was just another thing we would give up on. Then I made him cheeseburger pie and the rest is history. Now 5 months later my hubby has lost 40+ pounds, my mom and dad, brother and sister in law, aunt, uncle, cousin and my friend have also joined us and are losing like crazy as well. Together we have lost 160 pounds so far!
And today, I have reached 125 pounds! I am 10 pounds less than I was when I got married. I am in a size 6 pants and small shirt. I have more energy to take care of my hubby and my children. I feel so much better about myself and the future for my family. I do not miss the candy or the soda. I love my black cherry Good girl moonshine, all of the wonderful coffee recipes and I don’t even want to cheat, because I feel so good and everything I could ever want to eat I know I can find a THM way to make it!
I know that only by the grace of God did I make it thru these difficult years and I am so grateful for His many blessings on my family. One of the greatest blessings He gave me is THM! My hubby’s TBI symptoms have also greatly improved since starting THM. His short term memory is getting better, as well as his patience, energy, ability to sleep and he can handle multitasking much better. The collagen has been helping his constant pain, the sunflower lecthin and mct oil his memory and mood, and being off of sugar makes his ability to think so much better- not as much brain fog anymore! Thank you for sharing all of your THM journeys with me, you all have been my inspiration and encouragers! My Dr. would like me to lose another 10-15 pounds, so I’m headed for that next goal, but I feel confident that I can actually do that and I haven’t felt that way in a long time! Keep going mama’s we can do it!
